A lot of the unique sideboards that we chose to include here pay homage to something special. It’s no different for the Whakairo sideboard from Alma de Luce which has a design that takes inspiration from nature but also from the art of sculpting wood celebrated by the Maori – Whakairo culture. The sideboard is made of walnut wood and has a memorable, tapered structure.
Chen Chen & Kai Williams designed something called The Third Eye Vessel. It’s a magazine rack which has a rather unusual form. Its body is made up of three panels that form a sort of open box that lets you place your books along its sides so they can be automatically aligned. It’s a simple and clever system and the marble really makes the piece pop.
There are of course some major differences between a feminine decor and one with a masculine vibe. Masculine spaces are more practical and more focused on functionality. This, however, doesn’t stop them from also being sensible to style and little details that make them look charming. Sacrificing style for comfort is rarely a good idea, especially when you want the space to look masculine.
